1. Getting the best results from Satis
These are the settings the full-universe backtest actually validated. They're about operating the tool well — not a prediction of returns.
The recommended configuration
- All three signal modes on (DIP · STRICT · POSITION) — the edge is broad.
- Min-quality 2 — trims the weakest signals so trades are worth the fee. (Min-quality 3+ over-filtered and reduced returns.)
- Forex excluded — every FX pair was net-negative after broker minimums.
- Fib confluence off — the stricter filter cut returns without improving quality.
- Spot only — no leverage, shorting, margin or derivatives. This is the whole product; there's nothing to "turn up" here.
- Higher-timeframe trend filter on — only trades with the daily trend.
- Risk 0.5–1% per trade · total exposure ≤10% — keeps any single loss small.
Match the settings to your account size
This is the single biggest lever. Small accounts should stay on the fee-safe crypto book; the shares edge only pays for its commissions at roughly $50k+. The full breakdown — with recommended risk, slots and asset classes per size — is on the Starting Small guide.
Operate it well
- Keep the engine running — it scans every few hours; an idle engine means stale signals.
- Leave the news/sentiment filter on — it can block a buy into clearly negative news flow.
- Use the circuit breaker — it pauses after a run of consecutive losses.
- Start as a test — run live with an amount you can afford to lose before scaling anything.

- Sorted.org.nz — New Zealand's free, government-backed money guidance (budgeting, saving, KiwiSaver, debt).
- Investopedia and Khan Academy — Finance & Capital Markets — free foundations on markets, risk and trading concepts.
- Business.govt.nz — free NZ guidance on starting and running a business, funding and compliance.
These are educational resources, not endorsements or recommendations. Learning the fundamentals before risking money is always worthwhile.
3. Building income & businesses
Beyond trading, real net worth usually comes from income and ownership — a job, a side business, or buying into an existing one. This is general education, not a plan for your situation; for that, talk to an accountant or adviser.
- Learn the fundamentals — business models, cash flow, and margins matter more than any single idea. business.govt.nz has free, plain-English guides for New Zealand.
- "Boring" / small-business acquisition — buying an established, already-profitable small business can carry less risk than starting from zero. It's a real strategy popularised online — learn the concepts, run the numbers, and get professional due diligence before ever committing money.
- Talk to an accountant early — they'll advise on structure (sole trader vs company), tax and GST, and whether you qualify for grants or funding. It's tax-deductible and usually pays for itself.
- Free NZ business support — the Regional Business Partner Network (regionalbusinesspartners.co.nz) offers free business advice and capability funding; business.govt.nz lists government funding and grants.
Educational only — not a recommendation to start, buy, or invest in any business. Every situation is different; get professional advice before acting.
4. Get proper advice — for the decisions that are yours
Satis can automate the mechanics, but the big money-and-life decisions (how much to risk, whether to change your finances, what it means for your benefit or tax) need a qualified human who knows your situation. Please use these — most are free:
Licensed financial adviser
The only people who can legally give you personalised advice on investing and building wealth. Find one via the FMA's public register (fma.govt.nz) or a fee-only adviser.
Accountant / bookkeeper
For business structure, tax, GST, and identifying grants or funding you may qualify for. A trading-savvy accountant is worth the fee and is tax-deductible.
Work and Income — 0800 559 009
If you're on a benefit, talk to them before selling assets or generating trading income — it can affect your entitlements under the asset and income tests. Only they can tell you how it applies to you.
MoneyTalks — 0800 345 123
Free, confidential NZ budgeting and financial-mentoring helpline. Great for cash-flow and getting on solid footing before anything else.
Citizens Advice Bureau — 0800 367 222
Free, independent help on almost anything — money, entitlements, consumer rights, and where to go next.
A note we mean sincerely: don't sell things you rely on (your vehicle, essentials) to fund trading, and never trade money you can't afford to lose. On a small balance this system is, on its own numbers, roughly break-even at best — treat early live runs as tests, not income. The path to real net worth runs through steady footing, learning, and qualified advice — not a leap.
